Guest Speaker: Tom Vanasche
Tom Vanasche grew up on a farm in Washington County near Cornelius. They raised a variety of crops and had a small dairy, as well as sold locker beef. At an early age he decided he was not going to milk cows for a living. He took the hard work ethic he developed on the farm and turned it into a medical degree. Goodbye cows!
Tom did a residency program in Colorado for three years and returned to Albany to man the Albany General Hospital Emergency Department. In his youth the neighbors had hazelnuts, so he thought that was something he could raise while working as a doctor. Over four years, Tom planted 42 acres. That was 36 years ago and now those trees are dying, so he is starting over on that project.
Tom loved bird hunting as a youth, especially the dog work, but did not big game hunt till he was about 30, when a friend took him rifle hunting for elk. Tom was hooked. In 1992, he started hunting with a wooden bow and has traveled to five continents pursuing his passion for adventure.
