Guest speaker: Peter Troedson, City Manager, City of Albany
At the end of June, Peter Troedsson will celebrate his one-year anniversary with the City of Albany. He came to Albany from Bothell, Washington, where he began a second career in municipal government as Bothell’s Deputy City Manager…following a 30-year active duty Coast Guard career. Highlights of his military service included assignments as Chief of Staff for the Eighth Coast Guard District in New Orleans during the Deepwater Horizon explosion and the resulting massive cleanup operations, and as a Military Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. His last active duty assignment was as Coast Guard liaison to the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He retired from military service in February 2014.
A career helicopter pilot, Captain Troedsson was Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Group/Air Station Astoria, Oregon, during the storm of December 2007. Astoria helicopter and boat crews rescued over 170 people during the severe weather and flooding associated with that storm. He also commanded Air Station Savannah, Georgia, and served in a number of operational aviation assignments, including an exchange with 771 Royal Naval Air Squadron in Cornwall, England. Peter was designated as an Instructor Pilot in the HH-65 Dolphin helicopter and was qualified in five other helicopter types. His staff assignments have included work on the staff of the Coast Guard's Resource Director, where he was responsible for developing and communicating the Coast Guard's capital investment plan.
Peter is Credentialed as a City Manager by the International City/County Management Association, and is a member of the Oregon City/County Management Association. He graduated from UCLA with a BA in Political Science and Scandinavian Languages. He holds a Masters in Public Administration from George Washington University, and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the US Air Force Air War College.
